Start Your Driving Journey the Right Way
Getting your learner licence is an exciting milestone—it’s your first step toward freedom and independence. But let’s be honest, it is completely normal to feel a bit overwhelmed or nervous about your first time behind the wheel. From mastering the pedals and steering to thinking about that 120-hour logbook requirement, the road ahead can look like a lot.
That’s where Lee’s Driving School comes in. We believe learning to drive is about more than just passing your driving test; it’s about building the skills, awareness, and confidence to stay safe on the road for life. We guide you through every step, turning a daunting process into an empowering experience.
What to Expect on Your First Lesson
Your first driving lesson is all about setting you up for success in a calm, stress-free environment. We go at your pace, ensuring you feel comfortable before we even turn the key.
What to bring:
- Your valid NSW Learner’s Licence
- Your logbook
- Comfortable, flat, enclosed shoes for driving
What we’ll cover in the car:
- The Cockpit Drill: Adjusting your seat, mirrors, and steering wheel so you have optimal control, comfort, and visibility.
- The Basics: Getting familiar with the pedals, indicators, gear stick, and smooth steering techniques.
- Moving & Stopping: Learning the fundamentals of starting the engine, moving off smoothly, and coming to a safe stop. We always start on quiet, low-traffic roads so there is zero pressure.
Fast-Track Your Logbook Hours
Did you know? For every 1 hour you spend with a licensed instructor at Lee's Driving School, you get 3 hours recorded in your logbook (up to a maximum of 10 structured lesson hours, which equals 30 logbook hours).

Beyond Car Control: We focus on hazard perception and critical decision-making, teaching you how to read the road, not just operate the vehicle.
Faster Confidence Building: Reach your milestones quicker and more effectively than through private practice alone.
For the Parents
Peace of Mind: Rest easy knowing your child is being taught by a fully qualified, accredited instructor in a dual-controlled vehicle.
Reinforcement: We reinforce the safe driving behaviors you teach at home, providing a consistent message for the learner.
Logbook Efficiency: We help ensure the 120 logbook hours are completed accurately.
Note: In NSW, 1 hour with a professional instructor can often count for 3 hours in your logbook (up to a maximum of 10 structured hours).
Why Take Professional Driving Lessons with Lee’s Driving School?
Professional instruction is about more than just passing a test; it’s about building a foundation for a lifetime of safe travel. Here is why learners and parents choose Lee’s Driving School:
Choosing Your Transmission: Manual vs. Automatic
Manual Driving Lessons Mastering a manual vehicle provides a deeper connection to the car and the road, offering unparalleled flexibility for your driving future.
Best For:
Full Licence Flexibility: Ideal for those who want no restrictions on what they can drive.
Rural or Regional Drivers: Essential for handling heavy-duty vehicles or driving in areas where manual cars are more common.
Work & Fleet Vehicles: Many trade, delivery, and commercial vehicles are manual; being licensed for both opens more job opportunities.
Enhanced Control: Perfect for learners who want to develop advanced car control and coordination.
Why Choose Manual?
Drive Anything: Once you pass, you are legally permitted to drive both manual and automatic cars.
Mechanical Understanding: Learning gear ratios and clutch control gives you a much better grasp of how a vehicle actually functions.
Terrain Mastery: Manual gears offer superior control when navigating steep hills, towing, or driving on varied, unsealed terrain.
Licence Note (NSW)
The Ultimate Freedom: Passing your driving test in a manual vehicle means you will not have the “A” condition on your licence. You are fully qualified to operate any passenger vehicle, giving you total peace of mind regardless of what car you need to drive.
Automatic Driving Lessons Choosing an automatic vehicle can significantly streamline your journey to getting a license, particularly in busy city environments.
Who Is This Best For?
Nervous or First-Time Drivers: Simplifies the driving process, allowing for a more relaxed learning experience.
Faster Confidence: Perfect for learners who want to build their road skills quickly without the technical hurdle of gear management.
City & Traffic Driving: Ideal for navigating heavy traffic and stop-start conditions without constant shifting.
Coordination Needs: Highly recommended for drivers who find managing multiple pedals and a gear stick difficult.
Why Choose Automatic?
Easier Learning Curve: Without the complexity of a clutch, you can master the vehicle much faster.
No Gear Changes: Say goodbye to stalling or searching for the right gear at a busy intersection.
Focus on Safety: By removing the mechanical distractions, you can dedicate 100% of your focus to road awareness, hazard perception, and safe decision-making.
Licence Note (NSW)
Important Condition: If you pass your driving test in an automatic vehicle, your license will include an “A” condition. This means you are only permitted to drive automatic vehicles.
On Red P’s: You must drive an automatic.
To Remove the Restriction: You would need to pass a manual driving test at a later date.
Choosing Your Transmission: Manual vs. Automatic
To help you decide which path is right for your driving journey at Lee’s Driving School, here is a quick comparison of the two options:
| Feature | Automatic Lessons | Manual Lessons |
| Learning Curve | Easier. No clutch or gear shifting to master. | Challenging. Requires coordination of gears and clutch. |
| Focus | Allows 100% focus on road safety and hazards. | Requires focus on vehicle mechanics and control. |
| Best For | City traffic, nervous drivers, and faster results. | Rural driving, work vehicles, and car enthusiasts. |
| NSW Licence Condition | “A” Condition: You can only drive automatic cars. | No Restriction: You can drive both manual and automatic. |
| Confidence | Builds confidence quickly in busy traffic. | Builds a deeper technical understanding of the car. |
| Future-Proofing | Most modern and electric cars are automatic. | Essential for many trade, fleet, and high-performance cars. |
